Assistant Maintenance Engineer
Job Introduction
The Assistant Engineer provides vital technical support across MPS workspaces, ensuring engineering and maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with standards through the effective coordination and management of on‑site subcontractors. They also support the planning, monitoring, and documentation of works, helping to ensure smooth delivery of projects and BAU operational activities. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role plays a key part in maintaining high‑quality service and operational reliability.
Main Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for contractors, communicating scope, safety requirements, and deliverables, and supporting planning activities such as scheduling works, tracking progress, and managing documentation.
- Review and verify contractor documentation, including RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements), progress reports, and completion records.
- Contribute to the continual improvement of contractor performance and engineering procedures.
- Monitor and provide feedback on supplier performance to ensure best value for MPS from both a cost and quality perspective, identifying opportunities to optimise spend.
- Seek opportunities to continuously improve ways of working and contribute to team, department, and divisional continuous‑improvement initiatives aimed at driving operational efficiency.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and subcontractors, fostering a collaborative approach to ways of working and problem‑solving.
- Take personal accountability for training, skill development, and performance while complying with all governance, policy standards, and processes.
- Support a culture where colleagues recognise the importance of adhering to policies and procedures, and proactively identify and manage risks.
- Assist in developing and maintaining management reporting, and identify and remove bottlenecks to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Ideal Candidate
- An electrical background with a solid working knowledge of HVAC systems.
- Experience within a commercial property environment, or in a similar role, is highly advantageous.
- Strong Building Management System (BMS) knowledge is particularly valuable.
- Demonstrated experience in effective contractor management, ensuring safe, compliant, and high‑quality delivery of works.
- Independent thinking, with the ability to demonstrate problem‑solving capabilities through scenario‑based interview questions.
- Prior experience using a CAFM system, as the role includes a significant administrative component.
