Head of Business Development - Asia

The Opportunity

Medical Protection Society (MPS) is the world’s leading protection organisation for Doctors, Dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of almost 300,000 Members around the world.

We are seeking a Head of Business Development – Asia to own and deliver our business development strategy across the region. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer – International, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to regional teams, ensuring the achievement of ambitious income, growth and retention targets while maintaining a strong focus on member experience and market relevance.

With accountability for income of circa £50m, this role plays a critical part in delivering our international commercial strategy and identifying new growth opportunities in both established and emerging Asian markets.

As a senior leader within the International Commercial function, you will:

  • Lead and deliver the Asia‑wide Business Development strategy, aligned to corporate priorities and regional market dynamics
  • Provide inspiring leadership to regional BD leads, managers and executives, developing capability, engagement and succession across direct and indirect reports
  • Drive new business growth, retention and market share across B2C, B2B and corporate segments
  • Oversee strategic partnerships within medical, dental and related sectors, identifying and realising new opportunities
  • Own regional commercial planning, budgets and forecasts, ensuring strong financial performance, cost control and return on investment
  • Champion a strong member‑centric culture, using market insight and feedback to enhance propositions and experiences
  • Represent the organisation with senior stakeholders, partners and external bodies across the region

What success looks like

Success in this role will be measured through delivery against financial targets, income and member growth, retention, market engagement, people metrics and the achievement of wider corporate strategic priorities.

About you

You will be an accomplished business development leader with a proven track record of delivering growth at scale in complex, regulated environments. You are commercially astute, culturally aware and confident leading across multiple geographies.

What you’ll bring:

  • Senior‑level leadership experience within organisations of £30m+ revenue
  • Strong background in business development across B2C and B2B markets, ideally within financial services or insurance
  • Regulated insurance sales qualification or equivalent
  • Demonstrable success in strategy development, market entry and growth execution
  • Excellent financial literacy, including budgeting, forecasting and P&L management
  • Exceptional relationship‑building and influencing skills, with credibility at senior and external stakeholder level
  • Experience leading diverse teams across regions through both direct and matrix management

  • A strong compensation package commensurate with a senior leadership position
  • A discretionary on-target bonus of 15%. Up to a max 30% based on performance
