Underwriting Technician
Job Introduction
The Underwriting team are responsible for influencing and implementing all aspects of underwriting policy and decision making for all members. As an Underwriting Technician, this will involve translating risk appetite, as defined by Council, into underwriting strategy. There will be a need to manage current and future risks through a process of pricing, education and risk management. This will support the MPS objective of being the most respected, influential and authoritative player in the market. The role will be home based for the foreseeable future.
Role Responsibility
As an Underwriting Technician, your responsibilities will involve:
- Applying underwriting decisions on Referrals and Tasks from all areas of MPS business
- Providing reasoned underwriting rationale and to refer for appropriate sign off of underwriting decisions outside of Underwriting Technician level of authority for all areas of MPS business
- Analysing member profiles and identify high risk members using appropriate tools / techniques, providing rationale for appropriate further action to be discussed with Risk Managers
- Conducting a detailed analysis of member profiles and case histories for those who have been identified as potential high risk to MPS
- Managing the department inboxes, allocating department workflows.
The Ideal Candidate
To be considered for the Underwriting Technician role, you'll have the following skills and experience:
- A background in insurance or Financial Services would be ideal, but not necessary if you can demonstrate evidence of the other requirements
- Clear communication skills - you'll be communicating with our Members and colleagues of all levels on a daily bases
- You'll need an eye for detail as you'll be undertaking a lot of investigation
- Confidence in handling complex and challenging matters
- You'll also need to demonstrate your ability to understanding of managing risk
- The ability to work effectively within a team, promoting a culture of collaboration and sharing best practice
- You'll be self motivated, and be able to respond to the changing needs and expectations of the business
