Underwriting Technician
Job Introduction
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Underwriting Technician to join us to work within the Underwriting Operations team here at MPS based in our Leeds office! As an Underwriting Technician you will play a role in implementing and adhering to underwriting policy whilst providing an excellent service to our members. If you are someone who has clear analytical and investigative skills with an ability to balance the needs of the member with the risk exposure to the business, then this could potentially be the role for you.
This is a highly administrative role and will require an individual who can think outside the box and clearly rationalise decisions based on Underwriting policy, Guidance and Risk appetite.
This role sits under MPS’ ‘Hybrid Persona’ meaning a blend of home and office-based working, to suit you and the needs of the business. This is typically 1-2 days per week on-site.
Role Responsibility
- Review and complete referrals escalated from all areas of MPS or escalate in line with delegated authority and accreditation
- Identify any potential risks against the member fund and balance that with the request of the Member, Group or Corporate
- Balance the risk of new applications and ensure we are bringing in the right level of risk for the business
- Review high risk members and suggest ways in which we help mitigate any future risk
- Clearly represent Underwriting in all areas of the business and help build our presence across MPS
- Mitigate the risk to the business by identifying high risk members
The Ideal Candidate
- Having some experience in underwriting (not essential, but would be advantageous)
- Fantastic Investigative skills
- Able to use initiative and think outside the box
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work individually but also to collaborate with a team and share best practice
- Some experience in senior administrative position
