Underwriting Technician
Job Introduction
We have a new opportunity in the Underwriting Team for someone to join us and take on the role as an Underwriting Technician. This is a very exciting and varied role and will allow you to get involved in a whole range of different tasks while assessing the Medical Indemnity Risk to the business. As a mutual organisation we strive to ensure we have the right tools to evaluate the risk to our members fund and that is where you come in!
You will get involved in a wide range of tasks including Individual member referrals which may include Income Audits/Backdate Requests/Case History reviews and a lot more. You may also be involved in commercial risk e.g. New procedures and pioneering surgeries which come to light every day, we need to assess the risk of that drug/procedure or surgery based on the evidence we have available to us. With this in mind you will need an investigative mind, an openness to assessing risk and a detailed approach to research.
Role Responsibility
- To apply and evidence definitive underwriting decisions on Referrals and Tasks from all areas of MPS business that fall within authority.
- To provide reasoned underwriting rationale and to refer for appropriate sign off of underwriting decisions outside of Underwriting Technician level of authority for all areas of MPS business.
- To analyse member profiles and identify high risk members using appropriate tools / techniques, providing rationale for appropriate further action to be discussed with Risk Managers.
- To conduct a detailed analysis of member profiles and case histories for those who have been identified as potential high risk to MPS.
- To manage the department inboxes, allocating department workflows.
The Ideal Candidate
We are a fairly small team and require someone who is willing to learn and quickly gain accreditation in the role. Whilst direct underwriting experience is not essential, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate all of the skills and experience required to quickly get up to speed as there is a lot to learn. We ask for teamwork, fresh thinking, productivity, an eye for detail and a willingness to achieve in a fast paced and exciting role. It is imperative that you have an eye for detail, an open mind and good investigation skills, but coaching will be given to ensure you have the support you need to gain full accreditation.
A background in insurance or Financial Services would be ideal, but not necessary if you can demonstrate evidence of the other requirements
