Underwriting Policy Adviser

Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Policy Adviser to join our Underwriting team based in Leeds!

 

The Underwriting, Pricing and Insurance Division is at the forefront of managing the financial risk of MPS worldwide. Working closely with the wider Underwriting team, you will play a pivotal role in  supporting the implementation of underwriting strategy, policy and risk framework for the benefit of ourmedical and dental members working in the UK and internationally.   With over 300,000 members worldwide, the Policy Adviser role is central in supporting the underwriting team to ensure policies are designed and implemented correctly to help mitigate risk.

 

This role sits under MPS’ ‘Hybrid Persona’ meaning a blend of home and office-based working, to suit you and the needs of the business. This is typically 1-2 days per week on-site.

Role Responsibility

  • Support the implementation and delivery of the Underwriting strategy in relation to individual discretionary and corporate business (UK and international)
  • Improve the membership risk profile to ensure a fair use of the member fund
  • Identify and report risks and ensure policies are developed to ensure consistency of decision making within Underwriting and across MPS
  • Act as an escalation point for the Underwriting Technicians and colleagues around the business to address policy queries
  • Ensure policies are appropriate and fit for purpose and align with the Underwriting Risk Appetite.
  • Mentor and coach the Underwriting Technicians and wider UW team
  • Assist Underwriting Policy Leads with translation of risk appetite into risk tolerances and limits and business rules where appropriate

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • A curious and ‘hands on’ attitude
  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately to different audiences
  • Experience of working in an underwriting, risk environment or similar exposure to operating in a regulated environment

Package Description

  • Up to 10% discretionary annual bonus
