Litigation Assistant

Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for a Litigation Assistant to join our Legal Services based in Leeds!

As our Litigation Assistant, you will be joining a proactive and contentious Member Cases and Claims Division that is at the forefront of protecting the careers, reputation and financial risk of our members worldwide.

You will play a pivotal role in supporting the Litigation Solicitors in the provision of excellent legal services for members, consisting primarily in the defence of litigated clinical negligence claims, which is trusted and valued and provides fair treatment and outcomes.

This role sits under MPS’ ‘Hybrid Persona’ meaning there will be a blend of home and office-based working, to suit you and the needs of the business. This is typically 1-2 days per week on-site.

Role Responsibility

Litigation Assistants are an integral part of an inclusive team with several key functions, which help to keep cases moving in the right direction.  A successful Assistant will feel empowered to take proactive steps in a case and will recognise when to refer an issue for guidance.

  • Communicating with members, Counsel, experts, third party solicitors and Court.
  • Reviewing incoming communications on assigned caseloads
  • Arranging member meetings and conferences
  • Attending and taking notes at proofing meetings, conferences, hearings and trials
  • Instructing experts and counsel
  • Legal research
  • Producing chronologies and case plans
  • Drafting relevant Court documents
  • Adhering to CPR deadlines

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking applications from candidates who have legal qualifications and / or legal experience working in a within a clinical negligence setting or in-house legal team.

We are looking for self-motivated team players with excellent written and verbal communication skills who are dedicated to working in a cohesive and efficient team.   As you can imagine the nature of this work can varying in complexity, so you will be required to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.   The ideal candidate will efficiently manage several deadlines at one time by having a flexible approach and not compromise on quality.
