Legal Costs Adviser - International

Job Introduction

The role of Legal Costs Adviser provides a trusted and valued legal costs service to our Member Protection & Support division, which is efficient and effective to ensure positive outcomes for our members and membership fund.

Role Responsibility

  • Working as part of a collaborative global team, manage a caseload of claims for costs at various stages of development, prioritising as required.
  • Act on behalf of the organisation on the assessment of the costs, or other appropriate method of negotiation of costs and prepare and present any relevant submissions required
  • In conjunction with the team, investigate and analyse facts, law and quantum early, and devise and implement effective strategies to move claims for costs to resolution. 
  • Keep knowledge of costs law and procedure within the relevant jurisdiction up to date, and work to develop costs handling expertise, both individually and for the department as a whole.
  • Meet all applicable CPD requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

You'll have experience and technical expertise in legal costs with experience dealing with defendant clinical negligence costs, disputes and assessment of bills.

This role may suit someone who is already well versed in legal costs looking to expand their skills in a global reaching role, or someone with accounting or claims experience, looking to move into a costs role.  

It would also be beneficial if you had the following:

  • Experience of costs in relevant (Ire) and other jurisdictions 
  • Significant experience in legal costs in relevant jurisdiction
  • Admission to relevant regulatory body (if appropriate) and/or relevant legal qualification for jurisdiction
  • Experience of dealing with Defendant clinical negligence costs disputes and assessment of Bills
  • Significant experience of handling own case load
  • Experience of attending taxation of costs and reviews/litigation of costs (as appropriate) & experience of writs reporting (if appropriate for jurisdiction).
  • Experience of dealing with Defendant clinical negligence costs disputes and assessment of Bills
  • Detailed knowledge in all aspects of the assessment of costs process within relevant jurisdiction
