Legal Assistant

Job Introduction

Following some fantastic progression within the team, we are excited to be on the search for 3 Paralegals (Legal Assistants) to join our in-house Legal Services team on fixed term basis for 12 months. This role will be hybrid and attached to either our Leeds or London office depending on your location.

The purpose of this role is to assist and support our Legal Advisers with their caseload of regulatory, inquest and disciplinary proceedings.

This role will provide you exposure to the complex and interesting healthcare regulatory arena from a defence/support perspective. Working together and learning from a team of highly experienced and supportive professionals, you will have the privilege of aiding our members through sensitive and challenging times in their careers, developing both your technical and stakeholder management skills.

Role Responsibility

Our Legal Assistants are an integral part of an inclusive team with several key functions, which help to keep cases moving in the right direction. A successful Legal Assistant will feel empowered to take proactive steps in a case and will recognise when to refer an issue for guidance.

  • Reviewing incoming communications on assigned caseloads
  • Communicating with members, Counsel, experts, Coroners and regulatory bodies
  • Arranging case conferences
  • Attending and taking notes at proofing meetings, conferences and hearings
  • Taking and drafting witness statements
  • Obtaining testimonials
  • Instructing experts and counsel
  • Legal research
  • Producing case chronologies and schedules of evidence
  • Producing disclosure and hearing bundles
  • Corresponding with members and other case parties

The Ideal Candidate

Ideally you will hold legal qualifications and / or have legal experience working in a within a clinical negligence setting or in-house legal team.

You're someone who is a self-motivated team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills, dedicated to working in a cohesive and efficient team.  

As you can imagine the nature of this work can vary in complexity, so you'll need to be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.   You will be someone who can efficiently manage several deadlines at one time by having a flexible approach whilst not compromising on quality.  

This is a hybrid working opportunity which means a mix of office and home based work to suit you and the needs of the team. At the moment you will find this team in the office 1 day per week, and as a new starter we would really encourage the same. Being in the office you'll learn and pick things up quicker and also get to know your peers on a more personal level.

Package Description
