IT Platform Engineer

Job Introduction

MPS are embarking on our ‘New World’ strategy, designed to help us be better, bolder and drive our business forward for our members. As part of this strategy, we have an exciting opportunity for IT Platform Engineer’s to join our Infrastructure and Operations team.

You'll  design, build, and maintain the infrastructure and platforms that power our organisation’s applications and services. You will ensure our systems are scalable, secure, and optimised for peak performance to support seamless business operations. 

A key focus of this role is creating and managing an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) that streamlines software delivery. You’ll work closely with software engineering, DevOps, and IT teams to integrate and optimize platform solutions, while maintaining infrastructure reliability, security, and scalability to meet organisational goals and performance metrics.

Role Responsibility

As our new IT Platform Engineer, you will also:

  • Track and manage reliability performance against agreed SLOs, in partnership with IT monitoring teams or other stakeholders, and ensure systems continue to meet SLOs over time 
  • Provide expert knowledge on reliability approaches, to ensure our organisation achieves its goals and roadmap for reliability
  • Simplify the complexities of modern software delivery, enhancing developer productivity, and aligning development practices with business objectives
  • Develop and automate deployment pipelines & API’s to streamline application delivery
  • Use infrastructure platforms to reduce technical (infrastructure) debt, simplify and automate IT infrastructure, whether it is in the cloud, on-premises or edge.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for:

  • Familiarity or experience with Agile/DevOps/DevSecOps and platform engineering
  • Knowledge of platform & IT management practices and certifications (ITIL, Agile, DevOps, SRE). 
  • Knowledge of platform tooling and practices (IaC. API’s, Self-service portals, Digital experiencing monitoring
  • Experience with monitoring & Observability tools 
  • Strong knowledge of scripting and programming languages (IaC APIM etc)

About the Team

Technology is at the heart of our organisation. It empowers our colleagues to deliver the best-in-class service to our members, whether that be through our systems, platforms and architecture or robust data insights to help influence business decisions. 

It is a very exciting time to get involved in our Technology, Digital and Data (TDD) division, as the team are currently developing new Cloud-based architecture, introducing a new CRM system that will allow for better cross-team collaboration and re-defining our platforms and environments.


How TDD work

We offer a truly-flexible hybrid working arrangement that is centred around our colleagues’ work-life balance. Technology allows us to collaborate effectively regardless of location, but we know sometimes you can’t beat being with your team in-person and our team tends to come on-site once or twice a month. However, we expect this can fluctuate throughout the year depending on our projects and current work.
