Head of Non-Financial Risk

Job Introduction

We have an exciting, new opportunity for a Head of Non-Financial Risk to join our Group Risk and Compliance team based in either Leeds or London to help us deliver deep insight with influence to have a real impact!

As our new Head of Non-Financial Risk, you'll be at the forefront of supporting and challenging the identification, assessment and mitigation of operational and strategic risks, promoting operational resilience and a positive risk culture and safeguarding our reputation.

Reporting directly into our Chief Risk Officer, you will be part of the Group Risk and Compliance leadership team and also be partnering the Business Development & Engagement (including Direct Sales & Service) division, fulfilling a Chief Risk Officer type role for the division.

This is a brand new role to MPS and a real opportunity to shape the direction of Group Risk and Compliance team.

Role Responsibility

As our new Head of Non-Financial Risk, you will also:

  • Provide strong, inspirational leadership to ensure the training, competence, performance and engagement of the business in all aspects of non-financial risk
  • Develop key stakeholder relationships to raise awareness and understanding of risk management and quantification whilst continuing to provide 2nd line challenge
  • Author risk opinions on material business decisions relating to business operations
  • Lead risk deep dives into projects/programmes and operational processes
  • Promote a positive risk management culture across the organisation
  • Oversee the effective operation of the Symbiant risk management system
  • Develop non-financial risk KRIs and produce non-financial risk sections of risk reports for the executive and non-executive audiences

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for:

  • Strong knowledge of risk management principles and methodologies including relating to operational resilience
  • Senior risk and insurance operations experience within the regulated insurance industry
  • Ability to operate and influence at a senior level
  • Deep knowledge of IT, cyber security and project/programme risk management (not essential, but desirable)

Package Description

About the Company

About the Team

Our Group Risk and Compliance function is currently undergoing an exciting transition having recently been joined by Chief Risk Officer, Mark Chaplin. Marks vision is to create an established and mature function that drives a greater appreciation and understanding of risk, to add value, ensure our Members are treated fairly and build confidence in our financial sustainability.

This will include driving operational resilience, supporting business transformation and promoting cultural change.

Our GRC colleagues will be building upon their previous successes throughout 2024 and beyond to drive a culture of accountability of risk throughout MPS.

How our Group Risk and Compliance team work

We offer a truly-flexible hybrid working arrangement that is centred around our colleagues work-life balance. Technology allows us to collaborate effectively regardless of location, but we know sometimes you cant beat being with your team in-person and our team tends to come on-site once or twice a week. However, we expect this can fluctuate throughout the year depending on our projects and current work.
