Head of Business Development - UK
Job Introduction
This is a rare opportunity to step into a pivotal role, reporting to our Chief Commercial Officer, shaping and delivering the UK Business Development strategy for a highly respected organisation operating at scale. As Head of Business Development, you will co-create and own a strategy that drives sustainable growth across individual, group and corporate segments, maximising market share, income and member engagement.
You will be a visible, senior commercial leader; influencing at executive level, strengthening strategic partnerships across medical and dental markets, and ensuring a high-performing, commercially focused culture across the UK. This is a role for an experienced leader who thrives on both strategy and execution: someone who can see the big picture, translate it into operational plans, and inspire teams to deliver measurable impact.
If you are a commercially astute, growth-oriented leader seeking a new challenge with real breadth, influence and accountability, this is an opportunity to shape the future of a significant, purpose-led organisation.
Role Responsibility
- Co-create and deliver the UK Business Development Strategy, achieving income, growth and market share targets.
- Provide strong commercial leadership across the region, building a high-performance, results-driven culture.
- Lead cross-functional teams to deliver clear, prioritised regional plans across medical and dental markets.
- Develop and manage key partnerships and distribution channels to drive sustainable growth.
- Own regional budgets and P&L performance, ensuring strong financial control and value for money.
- Strengthen member acquisition and retention through compelling propositions and excellent experience.
- Identify new growth opportunities and respond quickly to competitor and market changes.
- Lead, coach and develop teams, building capability and succession for the future.
- Ensure effective governance, risk management and regulatory compliance across all activities.
The Ideal Candidate
- A senior business development leader with experience in organisations of £50m+ revenue, operating across B2C and B2B markets.
- Strong commercial acumen, financial literacy and experience setting and managing budgets.
- Demonstrated success in strategy formulation and execution, with a track record of delivering growth and managing significant P&L responsibility.
- Proven ability to lead high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams through direct and indirect leadership.
- Exceptional relationship builder, with the credibility and presence to influence senior stakeholders, partners and external bodies.
- Deep experience in insurance, financial services or regulated environments; understanding of healthcare markets is advantageous but not essential.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to manage multiple strategic priorities and deliver results at pace.
Who We Are
Medical Protection Society (MPS) is the world’s leading protection organisation for Doctors, Dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of almost 300,000 Members around the world.
We are a not-for-profit organisation, meaning our Members’ subscriptions are kept safe, should Members require support for complaints or claims arising from professional practice, or re-invested into bettering the organisation, our colleagues and our products.
Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We actively campaign for regulatory and legal reforms that benefit Members and the wider healthcare professions.
To do this, we need colleagues who are trusted and supported to deliver their best work, whether that be through leadership development, fully-funded training courses or peer-to-peer support. We want our colleagues to feel empowered enough to deliver positive change, display ambition to push themselves and are determined when faced with a challenge, whilst ensuring Member’s best interests are at the core.
