Finance Business Partner

Job Introduction

Are you a qualified accountant ready to step into a strategic role that shapes the future of a purpose‑driven organisation? At MPS, we protect the careers, reputations, and wellbeing of healthcare professionals across the UK and internationally, and we’re now looking for a proactive, commercially minded Finance Business Partner to join our dynamic Finance team.

You’ll be at the heart of decision‑making, working closely with teams across the organisation to drive performance, challenge thinking, and influence strategy. Partnering with senior leaders, including Executive Directors, you’ll translate business plans into meaningful financial outcomes and deliver insight that genuinely matters.

Acting as the go‑to expert for financial planning and analysis, you’ll shape multi‑year forecasts, optimise operational spend, and proactively support strategic initiatives, anticipating risks and opportunities rather than simply reporting on performance. This role offers real variety, senior visibility, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact.

You don’t need to have held a Finance Business Partner role before, but you do need the right mindset, experience, and ambition to succeed in a strategic, business‑facing finance role.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with relevant post‑qualification experience
  • Strong experience working with balance sheets, including analysis, reporting, and understanding of financial drivers
  • Exposure to capital transactions, such as investment activity, funding, acquisitions, disposals, or other significant financial transactions
  • Proven experience in FP&A, management accounting, or a business‑facing finance role
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to provide forward‑looking insights
  • Confident communicator, able to influence and challenge stakeholders at all levels
  • Comfortable working with budgeting systems, financial models, and reporting tools

Desirable:

  • Experience in insurance, risk-based businesses, or healthcare
  • Exposure to strategic planning, pricing, or actuarial environments
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience enhancing financial processes

Package Description

  • Discretionary on-target bonus of 10%. Up to a max 20% based on performance
  • 11% pension contribution (3% from you, 8% from us – optional additional matched 3% contributions, e.g. 6% from you, 11% from us)
  • 25 days annual leave. Flexible public holidays and option to buy/sell additional leave
  • Private Medical Cover
  • Car Salary Sacrifice scheme
  • 6x salary death in service
  • Holistic health and wellbeing support package
  • A culture that promotes inclusivity, wellbeing and rewards hard work

About the Company

The Medical Protection Society Ltd (MPS) is the world’s leading protection organisation for Doctors, Dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of almost 300,000 members around the world.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, meaning member’s subscriptions are either invested into bettering the organisation, colleagues and products, or kept safe should members require support for complaints or claims arising from professional practice.

Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We also actively campaign for regulatory and legal reforms that benefit members and the wider healthcare professions.

To do this, we need colleagues who are trusted and supported to deliver their best work, whether that be through leadership development, fully funded training courses or peer-to-peer support. We want colleagues to feel empowered to deliver positive change, display ambition to push themselves and be determined when faced with a challenge, whilst ensuring members best interests are at the core.
