Finance Analyst

Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Analyst to join our Finance based in Leeds!

Reporting to Income and Segment Performance Finance Business Partner, the Finance Analyst will play a critical role in providing insights on profitability at segment/market level and driving performance.

You will support the Finance Business Partner, partnering with both UK/Ireland and International Commercial Directors, Chief Underwriting officer and Reserve team, providing financial reporting, analysis, tools and insight which will help challenge thinking, enable more informed decisions and drive performance across all P&L line at segment level, including income, opex and claim performance. 

This is a high visibility role where there is direct exposure to each commercial team, to learn about MPS business models in each market - how we price, how we compete in the market place, how we serve and engage members, and how we deliver profitability. There will also be regular interaction with other divisions, including Underwriting, Reserving and served as the connection between FP&A team and Commercial teams and have frequent exposure to Head of Finance and CFO.

Role Responsibility

As our new Finance Analyst, you will:

  • Provide monthly reporting and analysis on key income metrics performance – new business, retention rate, pricing
  • Support monthly and quarterly financial review, providing commentary, data analysis, review pack for both regional /segment review within Commercial team as well as CFO review across segment P&L
  • Provide quarterly loss ratio performance report, partnering with Reserve, UW and Financial Controllers to articulate drivers for loss ratio performance
  • Manage operation cost base for Commercial team, ensuring forecast/ budget accuracy, proactively managing risks and opportunities, month end accrual and overall financial management related to cost and headcount
  • Support forecast and Budget process across segment P&L, including inputs collection, modelling and Anaplan process
  • Partner with BI team to continue developing reporting tools to provide insight and streamline process
  • Support various projects/ad hoc analytics, including segment opex allocation and profitability review, Anaplan process/user dashboard redesign and investment business cases preparation and review

The Ideal Candidate

In additional technical ability on data modelling and accounting standard,

  • Proven experience working with senior stakeholders in the capacity of financial management – ability to engage and communicate effectively with non-financial teams
  • Finance Business Partnering experience covering full P&L
  • Understanding of FP&A processes and proficiency in Planning system
  • Financial Services background, insurance industry preferred.
  • Ability to take the initiative and function with ambiguity
  • Curiosity, challenge status quo and ability to problem solve
