Business Development Executive - South Africa
Job Introduction
Are you a natural relationship‑builder who also loves the thrill of the close? Do you thrive in complex conversations, bring confidence to senior stakeholder interactions, and know how to balance big picture thinking with hands‑on execution while operating with a high degree of autonomy? If so, this could be the ideal next step for you.
We’re looking for a Business Development Executive to join a high-performing team. This role blends new member acquisition, strategic relationship management and exceptional member care—always delivered with purpose.
Our members rely on us at the moments that matter most. You’ll be the face of our organisation—trusted, available, and committed to delivering advice, solutions, and support when they need it. In return, you’ll join a mission-led business where your impact is tangible and your voice matters.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Driving membership and income growth by developing a portfolio of high-value professional clients across both B2B and B2C channels. Managing the full sales cycle—from pipeline creation and consultative needs analysis to negotiation and successful close.
- Retaining and growing existing members through proactive engagement, relationship management and exceptional service.
- Building and managing strong relationships with senior stakeholders across a variety of professional sectors.
- Leading tenders, proposals, and commercial negotiations.
- Representing MPS at industry engagements and professional events to strengthen market presence and member relationships.
- Acting as a trusted advisor, representing the member voice internally and ensuring their needs shape our future direction.
- Being a brand ambassador who reflects our values and commitment to putting members first.
You’ll thrive here if you are:
A strong sales professional
- Confident managing complex deals and long sales cycles
- Able to close with conviction while maintaining trust
- Skilled in consultative and needs‑based selling
A resilient relationship-builder
- Able to engage credibly with high‑net‑worth professionals and senior leaders
- Comfortable navigating conflict and handling difficult conversations
- Naturally influential, with presence and gravitas
Detail-driven and organised
- Able to manage pipelines, proposals, and reporting with discipline
- Balances strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
We welcome people from a range of industries. You may come from:
- Medical or healthcare professional engagement
- Pharmaceutical sales
- Insurance or financial services
- Private banking / high-net-worth client management
- Professional B2B services
Experience working with regulated products, tenders, commercial negotiations, or high-stakes professional clients will be highly valuable.
Ready to Apply?
If you’re commercially driven, relationship‑focused, and motivated by purpose as much as performance, we’d love to hear from you.
In return, we can offer you:
- A discretionary on-target bonus of 10%. Up to a max 20% based on performance
- 21 Days Leave, plus 12 public holidays
- Employer pension contribution of 8% (3% from the individual)
- Telephone/Data Allowance
- Car Allowance
- Private Medical Allowance
- Holistic health and wellbeing support package
- A truly flexible hybrid-working arrangement
- A culture that promotes inclusivity, wellbeing and rewards hard work
Who We Are
Medical Protection Society (MPS) is the world’s leading protection organisation for Doctors, Dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of almost 300,000 Members around the world.
We are a not-for-profit organisation, meaning our Members’ premiums are kept safe should our Members require support for complaints or claims arising from professional practice, or invested into bettering the organisation, our colleagues and our products.
Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We also actively campaign for regulatory and legal reforms that benefit Members and the wider healthcare professions.
To do this, we need colleagues who are trusted and supported to deliver their best work, whether that be through leadership development, fully-funded training courses or peer-to-peer support. We want our colleagues to feel empowered enough to deliver positive change, display ambition to push themselves and are determined when faced with a challenge, whilst ensuring our Member’s best interests are at the core.
